What is glass fusing and how does it work at Doodlebugz Studio? Glass Fusing is simply the process of stacking two or more layers of beautiful glass together to make a wonderful and creative design. Then your glass is placed in a kiln where it is melted together to form one piece -hence the term "fusing". For the more advanced artists-you can try your hands at glass "slumping" in the molds that are in the glass fusing area. Warning-Glass Fusing is addicting. It's easy and it's fun. Great for adults and older kids. Younger children do need much assistance but can certainly try it too. *Children younger than 12 will require an adult to cut the glass for them, as there are sharp pieces. I have ordered many pieces of already pre-cut assorted glass, as well. No experience is required. We have lots of project sizes to pick from and a huge assortment of glass.
You can make ornaments, pendants, night lights, plates and more.
Here's how it works. You select a piece of glass for the base of your project and then you create your design using glass blocks, frit, stripes, stringers, bits, rods, and pre-cut designs. You cut the glass to desired shape and glue it onto the base. When finished your project will be fused resulting in a flat piece of glass. Projects can also be slumped into a mold to take the shape of a plate, a bowl, or vase for an additional $6 (to cover the second firing).
Please note: Some projects may require additional supplies after firing at an additional minimal cost. For instance, if you create a pendant and want to put on a silver bail after firing then there's a minimal fee of $1.75-2.75 and if you want to make a nightlight the attachment is $8. I also have magnets, lacing supplies, and more affordable options for those finished pieces, if you want to have a complete gift to walk out the door with.
Remember to watch the calendar for great introductory classes each month and special workshops on Glass Fusing.
